As the leading HR association in the province, the Human Resources Institute of Alberta is proud to have, once again, taken a leadership role in offering the 2008 Alberta HR Conference in Calgary on April 23 and 24. It was amazing to welcome 950 HR professionals, 26 speakers and 100 exhibitors from across Alberta and Canada to our flagship event. The demand for this event clearly demonstrates that we are meeting the professional development needs of the HR industry.

The HRIA partnered with the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre (CTCC) to test the Alberta HR Conference as the first full-scale eco-conference. And the results of our green efforts speak for themselves! We recycled 1210 pounds of paper, cardboard, plastic and wood pallets. We also sent 1269 pounds of food waste to a composting facility. That's nearly 2500 pounds of material diverted from the landfill. These activities produce significant results, with absolutely no negative impact on delegates' conference experience. In fact, 58% of attendees surveyed indicated the eco-conference initiatives enhanced their experience and 36% voted that they noticed no difference.
