Speaker Selection Committee

Purpose

Concurrent Speaker Selection Committee plays an integral role in the success of the Alberta HR Conference by helping to form the educational program, selecting the content of the presentations and helping to make this conference the premier professional development event offered by the HRIA.

Committee members review and evaluate speaker submissions, select and coordinate speakers to ensure a strong speaker lineup is secured for the 2011 Alberta HR Conference.

Responsibilities

• Using the established speaker selection criteria, review and evaluate assigned speaker submissions to create the short list of presentations
• Discuss evaluation with Concurrent Speaker Selection Committee to help select the best speakers for the conference
• Follow up and perform reference checks on assigned speakers who are selected to participate in the conference
• Correspond with assigned selected speakers and HRIA’s Sponsorship & Event Manger
• Maintain confidentiality of submissions throughout the evaluation and selection process
• Moderate assigned sessions during the conference
• Committee Chair will chair each meeting, keep activity logs for each meeting, and will complete periodic committee activity reports

Number of Positions

Nine (9) positions, including 1 Committee Chair position available

Relationships

Work with Concurrent Speaker Selection Chair, HRIA Sponsorship & Event Manger and HRIA staff

Qualifications

• Member in good standing of the HRIA
• Knowledge and experience relating to evaluating presentation materials/content

Time Commitment

8 week commitment (mid-Sept to mid-Nov 2010). Ability to dedicate approximately 3-5 hours per week from mid-September to the end of October to attend weekly committee meetings for abstract review and speaker selection
Moderate assigned sessions during the conference
